So spring is finally here, and we can’t say that we’re sad to see the back of winter! If you have a spring baby, then lucky you, because it’s one of the most lovely times of year to hold a celebration.
Here at Hooray Day, we love to share all kinds of tips, tricks and hacks so that you can make the most of your precious time, and say Hooray to your special day!
Check out our 10 top trends for spring celebrations below:
1 – Fresh blooms and greenery – what better way to celebrate the arrival of spring than with beautiful blooms? Freesias, lily of the valleys, gardenias, peonies, orchids and cherry blossoms are all coming into season now, and are just so gorgeous! Greenery continues to be super popular for centrepieces and features, so if flowers don’t go with the theme of your celebration, look for lush leaves of any kind – magnolia, natives, lemon etc. You don’t need fancy vases; greenery and flowers look just as lovely popped in little mason jars around the place.
2 – Grazing platters – oversized grazing platters are all the rage, and there’s a good reason for it. They’re fun and easy to put together, plus there are endless options to suit every budget. You don’t even need a fancy long platter, just a simple plank of wood will do, providing it’s not been treated with chemicals and isn’t covered in splinters! Get creative by arranging cheeses, cured meats, antipasto, pate, grilled or roasted veggies, fresh or dried fruit, crackers, pickles, olives and dips. Make your platter extra special by adding the condiment du jour – fresh honeycomb! Dolloped alongside blue cheese for your bigger guests, it’s divine!
3 – Statement balloons – statement balloons aren’t going away any time soon! Metallic, marbled/agate and glitter or confetti balloons are all over the place and add a very special touch to a celebration. Lettering and numbers are also popping up everywhere, as are balloons with other special features e.g. spherical shaped or mini.
4 – Fringing and tassels – whether it’s on bunting, tablecloths, clothing or food picks, tassels and fringing are definitely the cool kids of the party decor world at the moment.
5 – Seasonal fruit – after being cooped up inside and living on comfort food all winter, what could be more refreshing than the thought of an outdoor celebration and a table bursting with lovely fresh fruit and veg? Passionfruit, mangoes, pineapples, papaya, tangelos and many other delicious fruits are just now coming into season. Many winter berries are still around and at their finest at the moment too, so we really have the best of both worlds!
6 – Beautiful backdrops – a beautiful backdrop for your food table looks super special and allows you to go light on other decorations. Great options are bunting, fringed tissue paper panels, feature balloons, garlands of greenery or die cut wooden lettering.
7 – Interactive food! – who has time to plan food and entertainment for their little guests? Why not combine the two? Think of DIY sundae bars, cupcake or donut decorating stations, lolly bars or build-your-own-burger stations. Kids will love being able to get creative and then eat the fruits of their own labour.
8 – Layered cakes – whilst drip cakes are still super popular, more rustic looking, un-iced cakes are also coming back into style. No we’re not talking about the ubiquitous naked cake, more like simple layers of sponge or tea cake, filled with fresh cream or butter cream icing and topped with fresh fruit, gorgeous cake toppers or flowers.
9 – Unique themes – we’re seeing less cartoon character and princess themed parties, and more parents looking for something unique, simple and less obvious for their children. Parties that reflect kids’ interests and hobbies are very on trend right now.
10 – Simplicity and quality – we love this trend best of all! Kids’ parties are becoming more and more about quality over quantity. This applies to guest count, food, games, gifts … the lot! Don’t focus on making your celebration bigger and fancier than the last one, think about creating an occasion that you and your little one will actually really enjoy, and that you’ll remember for all the right reasons, not because of how stressful it was! So get back to basics … what is your child’s favourite colour, what is their favourite food, who do they most enjoy spending time with and what are their favourite hobbies? Then just go from there!
